I Had Everything I Wanted, So Why Did I Feel Empty Inside?

Have you ever achieved everything you thought you wanted, only to feel completely empty inside?

Have you ever achieved everything you thought you wanted, only to feel completely empty inside?

It happened to me, and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Before becoming a full-time coach, I spent nine years in a high-paying corporate job.

From the outside, I was the picture of success. excelling in sales, closing big deals, and enjoying a lucrative career.

Then, one day, I landed the biggest deal in my company’s history.

After the contract was signed, I called my boss from my hotel room in New York. He was ecstatic.

As a reward, he told me to take a few days to enjoy the city—on the company’s dime.

After we hung up, I sat on the edge of my bed, staring into space.

I had just earned more commission in one day than most people do in half a year. The future was set: more deals, bigger commission checks, and global travel.

And yet, I felt empty.

  • Was this all there was?
  • Was I destined to be just another cog in the corporate machine, working hard to make other people richer?

I realized then that no amount of money could fill the void growing inside me. I felt like a rudderless ship—waking up every day just to make money, with no real purpose.

Something had to changeI Had Everything I Wanted, So Why Did I Feel Empty Inside?

Over the next nine months, I saved and invested enough to quit my job. My resignation letter sat in my jacket pocket the entire time.

The day I finally resigned, my boss tried to convince me to stay, dangling the promise of bigger deals and even bigger commission checks.

But here’s the thing: when faced with a life-changing decision, you’ll always find 1,000 reasons to stay.

True courage is finding just one reason to leave.

And for me, that reason was that moment in New York.

So, I politely declined and walked away.

That was 17 years ago, and I’ve never looked back.
